EnAct (The Energy Action Project) is a multimedia initiative reporting on why everyone on the Planet needs access to affordable, reliable and sustainable energy.<\/p>
Yet, in 2020, almost half the people on the Planet have no access to modern energy. Being in 'energy poverty' typically traps them in severe poverty, often resulting in ill health and little opportunity to advance economically or socially. <\/p>
And herein lies a HUGE challenge.<\/p>
Energy production and use are the largest contributors to the greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions driving global climate change. Scaling up access to energy in a sustainable way means transforming the global energy system. Which means changing technologies, policies, financing schemes and -- here's where most of us come in -- human behaviour.<\/p>
EnAct helps people 'get' energy in two ways. First, by highlighting innovators who boost energy justice by delivering low-cost solutions that meet people's energy needs. To this end, we report on energy poverty and who is doing what to address it, while also building up basic understanding of energy sources and systems. To highlight the vital relationships between people and energy, we place a strong focus on visual storytelling, working with award-winning photojournalists from around the world.<\/p>
